Imphal, Jan 29 (PTI) Security forces arrested two militants belonging to a proscribed outfit in Manipur valley districts, police said on Thursday.
An active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) was apprehended from Thangmeiband in Imphal West district on Wednesday, a senior officer said.
Another member of the outfit was also arrested from Kongba in Imphal East district on the same day, he said.
Several cadres of the outlawed KCP have been arrested in recent months for their alleged involvement in extortion activities and intimidation, the officer said.
Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of restive Manipur, he said.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
The Centre had imposed the President’s rule in the state after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned last year.
The state assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation. PTI CORR BDC
