3rd Fight 4 Justice Awards Honour India’s Quiet Defenders of the Constitution

New Delhi, Dec 22, 2025 (PTI) — The 3rd Fight 4 Justice Awards, held at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, celebrated individuals and institutions whose legal battles transformed courtrooms into arenas of conscience, resistance, and constitutional renewal. Jointly organised by the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) and Live4Freedom LLP, the awards recognised landmark struggles where justice was achieved through courage, patience, and moral clarity.

The ceremony honoured Umashankar Yadav for exposing systemic injustice in criminal prosecution and reaffirming due process, Pragya Prasun for advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, and Sukdeb Saha for his relentless pursuit of child rights, ensuring protection and rehabilitation for minors facing abuse and neglect. Ram Charan was recognised for his lifelong struggle to secure land, inheritance, and dignity for tribal communities, while Prabha Tyagi was honoured for challenging patriarchal legal structures and asserting women’s autonomy.

Sukanya Shantha received the award for holding state institutions accountable and strengthening governance, and K. Umadevi was recognised for affirming labour dignity, social security, and equality, particularly for women workers. Ramdas Janardhan Koli was honoured for defending coastal ecosystems and traditional fishing communities, while the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change received recognition for bringing climate accountability to the global stage. The Square Circle Clinic was acknowledged for transforming access to justice for death-row prisoners and under-represented communities, and HEAL – Human G Environment Alliance League received a Lifetime Achievement Award for decades of commitment to environmental justice and public health.

Justice N. Kotiswar Singh of the Supreme Court of India, the Chief Guest, said, “These awards celebrate courage—the courage to persist when justice is delayed or denied, reaffirming why courts exist: to protect the vulnerable and uphold the Constitution.” Justice Rajendra Menon, Jury Chair, added, “Each awardee represents a legal fight where justice prevailed because someone refused to give up.” N. Hariharan, President of the DHCBA, said, “The rule of law finds its truest expression when it stands with the weakest,” while Jatan Singh of Live4Freedom LLP noted, “These awards honour endurance, decades of quiet struggle asserting constitutional rights.”

The awards highlighted the importance of citizen-led constitutional action at a time of shrinking civic spaces and rising legal intimidation, reaffirming faith in the Constitution and the moral courage of its defenders. The event concluded with a reception for the awardees and guests.
