On June 7, 2025, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar pulled off a hilarious stunt, donning a ‘killer mask’ from his latest film, Housefull 5, to anonymously gather audience feedback outside Gaiety Galaxy Cinema in Bandra, Mumbai. The comedy entertainer, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, hit theaters on June 6, and Akshay’s undercover mission, shared via a viral Instagram video, captured fans’ candid reactions. The actor called it a “mast experience,” nearly getting caught before making a quick escape.

The Masked Mission

In the Instagram video, Akshay, dressed in a casual striped shirt and jeans, wore the film’s iconic ‘killer mask’—a nod to Housefull 5’s murder mystery plot with dual endings (Housefull 5A and 5B). Accompanied by others in similar masks, he approached moviegoers exiting the theater, asking, “Picture kaisi lagi?” Most fans, unaware of his identity, praised the film’s comedy, with one calling it “sexy” and others lauding its chaotic fun, per Bollywood Hungama. A woman at the end seemed to recognize him, filming excitedly as Akshay fled, captioning, “Pakda jaane wala thaa, par bhaag gaya”.

Housefull 5: A Chaotic Comedy Hit

The fifth installment of the Housefull franchise, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, features a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, and Nana Patekar. Set on a luxury cruise, the plot revolves around three men claiming to be ‘Jolly,’ the heir to a billionaire’s fortune, amidst a murder mystery with two alternate endings, per Wikipedia. The film earned ₹24.35 crore on its opening day, crossing ₹54 crore in two day.

A Star’s Connection with Fans

Akshay’s playful venture reflects his knack for engaging audiences, from dancing fugdi with Nana Patekar during promotions to this masked escapade. Despite Housefull 5’s polarizing reviews, its ₹50 crore-plus opening weekend and Akshay’s bold move signal the franchise’s enduring appeal. As Moneycontrol noted, his stunt was both a promotional masterstroke and a genuine attempt to connect, cementing his status as Bollywood’s beloved “Khiladi.”
