The highly anticipated sequel to the iconic 1997 war drama Border has reached a major milestone. The film’s third shooting schedule kicked off today at the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune. With core cast members reunited and new additions on board, the excitement factor is skyrocketing.

NDA Pune: A Legacy Reignited

The National Defence Academy—steeped in military history—serves as a fitting backdrop for the high-octane war drama. Scenes shot here reflect the film’s commitment to authenticity, echoing the purposeful style of the original. The third schedule is expected to include action-packed infantry drills, troop briefings, and battlefield maneuvers—hallmarks of elite military life, captured vividly on screen.

Cast Assemble: Sunny Deol Leads the Charge

Sunny Deol reprises his central role, returning to the franchise nearly thirty years after the original film. The veteran actor took to Instagram to share a star-studded group photo from the NDA campus. He wrote, “When all ‘Forces’ Come together! #BORDER2. Diljit Dosanjh & Ahan Shetty join Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan as the battalion kicks off the 3rd schedule…” .

Standing beside Deol are Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, each bringing fresh energy and new dynamics to the story.

New Blood: Diljit Dosanjh & Ahan Shetty Join the Ranks

Bolstering the veteran cast are Diljit Dosanjh—a powerhouse in both Punjabi and Bollywood cinema—and Ahan Shetty, whose inclusion injects a direct connection to the franchise through his father, Suniel Shetty. Fans have eagerly responded to their presence, with social media buzzing:

“He stuns”—”It will be good to see him”

Production reports confirm that both actors are playing integral roles—frontline soldiers—with Dosanjh and Shetty joining Deol and Dhawan in critical battle scenes at NDA Pune.

Multi‑Gen Ensemble: Varun Dhawan in the Spotlight

Varun Dhawan is reportedly portraying Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, a Param Vir Chakra recipient, although this casting hasn’t been officially confirmed. His presence adds youthful intensity and a strong screen presence, complementing Deol’s seasoned gravitas.

In the group photo from the set, fans are already dissecting his positioning—some think he looks like a wildcard—but most agree the ensemble chemistry is on point.

Creative Force: Anurag Singh & Production Power

Directed by Anurag Singh of Kesari fame, the film aims to blend scale with emotional resonance—prioritizing the soldier’s journey over pure spectacle. The production is helmed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, with T‑Series and JP Films backing the project.

The creative team says they are focused on capturing “the silences, the bonds, and the quieter moments that come with life in uniform,” making it a character-driven war saga.

Connecting Legacy: From Longewala to Kargil

While the original Border revisited the 1971 India-Pakistan clash at Longewala, the sequel reportedly draws inspiration from the 1999 Kargil War. Industry insiders call it a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers—a continuation of patriotic storytelling powerfully introduced in the 1997 classic.

Music Revival: “Sandese Aate Hai 2.0”

Adding to the nostalgic appeal, reports confirm the revival of the iconic “Sandese Aate Hai” theme. Music legends Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh have lent their voices to a reimagined version slated to anchor the background score. This modern twist is already stirring excitement for the soundtrack.

Looking Ahead: Release and Expectations

The film is slated to roll out by mid-August 2025 for final editing and post-production, aiming for a Republic Day (January 23, 2026) release. Industry analysts suggest Border 2 could surpass its predecessor in scale and emotional impact—potentially marking a new chapter in patriotic cinema.

A Sequel With Heart and Heritage

With its third schedule underway, Border 2 is shaping up to be more than just a sequel—it’s a convergence of Bollywood generations, grounded by veterans and energized by new talent. Sunny Deol’s return, Varun Dhawan’s hero’s mantle, Diljit’s charisma, and Ahan’s legacy bridge old and new in a story rooted in real sacrifice. Coupled with Anurag Singh’s direction and an ambitious score, Border 2 is already being hailed as “India’s biggest war film.” Anticipation is high as the battalion prepares to bring the next chapter of India’s battlefield saga to theaters.
