South superstar Dhanush got emotional at the pre-release event of his much-awaited Telugu film Kuberaa, describing it as a “very special film” that holds deep personal significance. Also starring Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna, the film is all set to release in theatres on June 20.

A Personal Milestone and A Role Like Never Before
Speaking at the event held in Hyderabad, Dhanush revealed:
“Kuberaa is my 51st Tamil film and my second Telugu film after Sir. Sekhar Sir actually narrated the script to me even before Sir.”
The actor further shared that the role of Deva in Kuberaa challenged him in new ways, calling it unlike anything he has played before.
Praise for Director Sekhar Kammula and Co-Stars
Dhanush was all praise for director Sekhar Kammula, calling him a visionary:
“Thank you for giving me Deva. This character means a lot to me. You’ve made this journey beautiful.”
He expressed admiration for veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, saying:
“Nag sir, sharing the screen with you is magical. You’re a man of class—we’ve grown up watching you. It was a learning experience every day.”
Turning to co-star Rashmika Mandanna, Dhanush lauded her rise in the industry:
“Rashmika, you’ve worked for all the love and success you’re receiving. You’ve earned 2000 crores and every bit of your luck.”
Realism in Performance and Unconventional Shoots
In earlier interviews, Dhanush had shared how the shooting experience was tough but rewarding. The actor filmed in dump yards and garbage trucks, embracing gritty realism for the character’s arc.
“It was physically challenging but I enjoyed the process. This role was something very different for me.”
Release Details
Directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring music by Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), Kuberaa will hit theatres in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi on June 20, 2025. The film recently received approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after a trimmed version was submitted for release.
