Brad Pitt Would Reunite With Tom Cruise—As Long As It’s on Solid Ground

Brad Pitt, 61, has openly expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of reuniting with Tom Cruise, 62, his co-star in the 1994 cult classic Interview with the Vampire. However, the catch — he’s drawing a firm line beneath his feet. Speaking to E! News during the F1 premiere in Mexico City on June 9, Pitt quipped, “I’m not gonna hang my ass off airplanes and shit like that,” adding that he’d consider any new project with Cruise “when he does something again that’s on the ground”.

Reflecting on Their Only Collaboration

Interview with the Vampire, based on Anne Rice’s gothic saga, remains the duo’s only on-screen collaboration. Though it was a landmark moment for both their careers, it was not without off-screen tension—Pitt has since referred to the experience as “miserable,” reportedly even attempting to leave midway, before being convinced to stay . Despite the friction, there was camaraderie too: the actors famously spent nights racing go-karts during filming. “He got me in the end,” Pitt reflected regarding Cruise.

Cruise’s Praise: From Go-Karts to F1 Racetracks

Their friendly rivalry hasn’t faded. Cruise recently praised Pitt’s new racing drama F1 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. He remarked, “It’s great to see Brad driving… He’s very good… Believe me, I’ve raced against him.” He reminisced fondly about their karting days on the Vampire set.

Pitt echoed the sentiment at the Mexico City premiere, calling Cruise “so sweet” in his support. Their shared passion for racing—whether on kart tracks or, soon, the big screen—appears to be one of their strongest bonds.

Director’s Insight: Cruise’s Risk Threshold

Joseph Kosinski, director of F1 (and Top Gun: Maverick), commented to GQ on the differences between working with Cruise and Pitt. Both actors are talented behind the wheel, he said, but Cruise’s appetite for risk is on another level. “Tom always pushes it to the limit,” Kosinski remarked. “I could see Tom maybe scaring us a little bit more”.

Graham Kelly, F1’s action-vehicle supervisor, reinforced this: Cruise’s driving is “terrifying,” he said, while Pitt “knows his abilities” and self-limits.

The ‘Ford v Ferrari’ What-If

Interestingly, Kosinski once planned to reunite the duo for a biopic on Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby—Ford v Ferrari, before James Mangold took over in 2019. In that original setup, Pitt and Cruise were to star, until budget constraints scrapped the idea. The successful adaptation eventually starred Christian Bale and Matt Damon, but the “what-could-have-been” remains tantalizing.

Ground-Level Conditions, Sky-High Possibilities

Pitt’s clear red line—no hanging off planes or extreme stunts—is hardly surprising. Cruise’s latest achievement holds a Guinness World Record for performing 16 flaming parachute jumps during Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. For an actor entering his seventh decade, Pitt’s boundary seems pragmatic.

Think of it as a Hollywood compromise: Cruise, the universe’s daredevil, can continue defying gravity solo, while Pitt remains firmly earthbound—understood by all parties. And if the script keeps both feet planted, fans might just witness a long-mooted reunion.

F1: Pitt’s Grounded Passion Project

Away from Cruise, Pitt is steering full throttle into F1, in which he portrays a former Formula 1 driver. The film, directed by Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, co-stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem. It hits theaters on June 27, 2025, after premiere poker-faced in Mexico City.

Off-screen, Pitt is embracing F1 culture. He shared quirky ritual habits picked up during filming—like always putting his left glove and shoe on first before a drive.

What Comes Next?

So, what’s next for these megastars? Pitt’s clause may be a deal-breaker—or a deal-maker. If Cruise ventures “back to ground,” a future film with Pitt could be a high-profile cinch. Until then, Pitt’s career remains grounded in both literal and metaphorical senses—with F1 paving his track forward.
