Final Poster & Teaser: A Glimpse Behind the Lens

The newly released visual depicts Shetty in a white turban, black jacket, and microphone in hand, an emblematic moment signifying the film’s wrap. In addition, an engaging 2-minute BTS teaser provides audiences with a sneak peek into the journey of making the film: Shetty shares that the film took three years to conceptualise and 250 days to shoot. The video captures cinematic grandeur, massive crew setups, elaborate action choreography, and an immersive look into the scale of production.

Epic Scope & Mythological Roots

Kantara: Chapter 1 is a mytho-thriller set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, with the film delving deeper into the origins of the Bhuta Kola ritual and ancient folklore introduced in the first installment. Reports confirm the scale: a ₹125 crore budget, nearly 250 days of shooting, and expansive war sequences involving over 500 fighters and a 3,000-strong cast on sizeable sets. Shetty, preparing intensely, trained in Kalaripayattu, sword fighting, and horseback riding, underscoring the film’s dedication to authenticity.

Shetty’s Cultural Vision & Producer’s Tribute

In a candid note, Shetty described the project as a “divine force,” echoing the film’s spiritual and cultural underpinnings. Hombale Films producer Vijay Kiragandur said the scale of this prequel “far surpasses anything we’ve undertaken before,” emphasizing both logistical ambition and heartfelt reverence for the region’s heritage.

This sentiment echoes Shetty’s reaction upon receiving the National Award for Best Actor in the original Kantara, where he credited the film’s triumph to his entire team: “I am just the face of the film… it is all because of their hard work.”

Challenges on Set: A Near-Mishap & Resilience

The shoot was not without its hurdles. Last month, a boat carrying Shetty and 30 crew members capsized in Shivamogga’s Mani reservoir. Fortunately, all individuals escaped unharmed; however, filming equipment and cameras were lost. Despite this scare, viewed by some as a protective sign from local spirits, the team remained undeterred, swiftly regrouping to continue production.

Legacy of the 2022 Blockbuster

The original Kantara (2022) emerged as a pan-India sensation and one of the highest-grossing Kannada films ever, blending folklore, spirituality, and social drama. Shetty’s powerful dual roles and the film’s tribute to Kambala race traditions earned him national acclaim and prizes, notably the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award.

What Lies Ahead: Expectations & Release Strategy

Scheduled for an October 2 release, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, the film positions itself for a nationwide cinematic impact. Industry insiders anticipate a significant uptick in scale and spectacle, with some fans claiming this chapter is “10x bigger and grander” than the original.
