The Kataria Family: A Realistic Portrait of Modern Indian Homes
At the centre of the story is the Kataria family, comprising:
- Sanjay Kataria (played by Rajesh Tailang) – a quiet, hardworking father navigating financial burdens and personal grief.
- Sushma Kataria (played by Sheeba Chaddha) – a strong yet tender mother holding the family together.
- Naina Kataria (Tanya Sharma) – a 21-year-old daughter balancing ambition and personal space.
- Bharat Kataria (Aditya Shukla) – her younger brother, passionate about cricket and often at odds with Naina.
The series also features Sanjay’s younger brother, Ajay, whose interactions with the rest of the family add to the layered narrative about intergenerational expectations and tensions.
Trailer Highlights Daily Chaos and Emotional Underpinnings
The trailer reveals moments of lighthearted bickering and deeper emotional turmoil within the family. Themes of sibling rivalry, financial constraints, generational clashes, and unspoken grief are sensitively portrayed, all within the framework of everyday domestic life.
Creators’ Vision and Cast Reflections
Director Ameet Guptha explained that Bakaiti was “born out of the kind of conversations we’ve all had around dining tables and on terrace steps—about space, sacrifice, and the quiet resilience that defines every Indian household.”
He further shared that the show’s narrative style aims for “natural camera work, real-time conversations, and emotions that unfold without fanfare.”
Sheeba Chaddha reflected on her role by saying, “Being part of ‘Bakaiti’ felt like stepping into a world that’s incredibly familiar yet rarely shown with such honesty. The Kataria family reflects the unsaid love, everyday struggles, and quiet strength that define so many Indian homes.”
Rajesh Tailang added, “‘Bakaiti’ is a story that feels lived-in, like a memory from your own past. Sanjay reminded me of so many fathers—silent providers, emotional anchors, and sometimes accidental comedians.”
