Shruti Haasan describes 2025 as a “weird and chaotic” year — juggling between acting commitments and live music performances with her band. As Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming film ‘Coolie’ gears up for its theatrical release on 14 August 2025, Shruti is set to appear as Preeti, a character she says is worlds apart from her own personality.
Rajinikanth’s Fans Can Expect a Treat
While Lokesh Kanagaraj has kept the plot under wraps, Shruti confidently says:
“Rajini sir’s fans will be super happy. I think ‘Coolie’ is going to be a really entertaining watch.”
She credits the combination of Rajinikanth’s screen presence, Lokesh’s storytelling, and the action-emotion balance of his past hits like Vikram, Kaithi, and Master as reasons for her optimism.
Why Shruti Said Yes to Preeti
- Star power on set: Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan.
- A strong role: Shruti says Preeti brings something important to the story, though details remain under wraps.
- No fear of being overshadowed: “Lokesh has done justice to every character,” she insists.
Shruti also praises Rajinikanth’s “positive energy” on set, calling it “amazing to see” and a learning experience.
Working with Lokesh Kanagaraj
Shruti’s earlier interaction with Lokesh was for her song Inimel, which he acted in — a project written by her father Kamal Haasan.
On Coolie’s set, she found Lokesh “clear, calm, and collaborative,” noting that actors never questioned their characters’ motivations because the director welcomed inputs.
Conversations at Home — Not What You Think
Despite being from a family of actors (Kamal Haasan, Sarika, Akshara Haasan), Shruti says:
“It’s never about acting. We talk about movies we saw, news we read, or something on Instagram — like any other family.”
She watches all her father’s work, but not her sister’s or mother’s — and they don’t watch hers either.
What’s Next for Shruti
- Coolie – releasing 14 August 2025
- Train (cameo) – directed by Mysskin, starring Vijay Sethupathi
- Salaar 2 – shooting date not yet set
- Listening to multiple new scripts for future projects
Shruti signs off, saying this is her “most exciting time” — a mix of music, big-screen drama, and the thrill of what comes next.
