Speaking in a recent interview with Film Window, Rita described her marriage as a period of extreme hardship. She claimed that both Kumar Sanu and his family subjected her to emotional and physical neglect, with restrictions on her freedom and basic necessities.

Rita alleged that during her pregnancy:
- She was denied access to food as kitchen shelves were locked when family members were away.
- She had to rely on relatives to cook for her and her children.
- Milk and baby food for her children were restricted, and she was given only Rs 100 per day.
- Court proceedings were initiated against her while she was pregnant, adding immense stress.
She said, “He took me to court during my pregnancy. He even had an affair during that time, which has now come out. I felt like my whole world had been crushed, and my family was shocked.”
Rita further revealed that Kumar Sanu’s sister lived with them, sharing a room with the singer, while she slept in a separate room with their children, alleging repeated mistreatment from both.
Affair Allegations and Marriage Timeline
Rita claimed that Kumar Sanu engaged in an extramarital affair during their marriage. The actor Kunickaa Sadanand later confirmed on Bigg Boss 19 that she had a six-year relationship with a married man, reportedly Kumar Sanu, which she described as toxic, adding another layer to the controversy.
Rita and Kumar Sanu had met in Calcutta, fell in love, and married in the late 1980s, initially without parental consent. The couple had three children but eventually divorced in 1994.
