Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, widely known for his intense screen presence in films like Marco, has landed in deep legal controversy. The Kakkanad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has issued a summons for the actor to appear on 27 October 2025 in connection with an assault case filed by his former manager, Vipin Kumar.

The Case Against Unni Mukundan

According to the police chargesheet, the case involves:

  1. Physical assault and verbal abuse
  2. Damage to property (breaking sunglasses)
  3. Threats to life
  4. Pre-planned confrontation

The charges have been framed under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 296(B), 351(2), and 324(4) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigators have confirmed that the case is backed by:

  1. Nearly 10 minutes of CCTV footage
  2. Multiple witness testimonies
  3. Circumstantial evidence
  4. Mobile tower location data

While the offences are bailable, legal experts believe the court hearing will be crucial for the actor’s professional and personal reputation.

Vipin Kumar’s Allegations

Vipin Kumar, who worked as Mukundan’s PR manager for six years, alleged that the actor called him to a building parking area earlier this year and physically assaulted him. He claimed Unni punched him, abused him, broke his sunglasses, and threatened him with dire consequences.

Vipin further linked the alleged outburst to the actor’s recent career struggles, citing the box office failure of Get Set Baby and the shelving of his directorial project. “He took that anger out on me,” Vipin said. He has also filed complaints with FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) and AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists).

Unni Mukundan’s Defense

On his part, Unni has denied the assault charges. Speaking at a press conference in Kochi, he admitted to throwing Vipin’s sunglasses in anger but strongly refuted claims of physical violence.

“This is not an assault case. There was no physical violence. Yes, I threw his sunglasses, but I did not hit him,” Unni stated.

He also accused Vipin of blackmail and of trying to take undue credit for the success of Marco. According to Unni, other industry members had raised similar complaints against Vipin, including one female actor who reportedly approached the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

Industry Stands Neutral

Both FEFKA and AMMA have decided not to intervene directly, urging that the matter be left to the judiciary. At a press briefing, FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan clarified that industry bodies would not protect either party but stressed that due legal process must take its course.

Final Word

As the October 27 hearing approaches, the case has turned into a sensational chapter in Malayalam cinema. Whether this is a case of a star’s arrogance spilling off-screen or a fallout of bitter professional rivalry, the court’s decision will not only affect Unni Mukundan’s career but also test how the industry handles accountability when stars are accused of crossing the line.
