Sunny Leone Addresses AI Concerns in Cinema: “It’s an Addition, Not a Threat”

Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone, the Bollywood actress and producer, recently voiced her optimistic take on artificial intelligence (AI) in cinema during a promotional event in Mumbai on September 24, 2025. While unveiling the digital poster for her upcoming film Kaur vs Kore, India’s first AI-assisted feature film, Leone responded to criticisms from filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, who have labeled AI-driven projects as a “threat” to traditional storytelling. Directed by Vinil Vasu and produced by Paparazzi Entertainment, Kaur vs Kore features Leone in a dual role as a human superhero and her AI avatar, exploring themes of digital safety, privacy, and ethics. The event, attended by her husband Daniel Weber, highlighted her pioneering use of AI, sparking discussions in India’s ₹101 billion entertainment industry amid 467 million social media users.

A Bold Embrace of AI in Filmmaking

Leone’s film marks a milestone as India’s first full-length AI-generated feature, blending thriller elements with futuristic narratives. In Kaur vs Kore, she plays Kaur, a human hero confronting her AI counterpart, Kore, in a story that delves into the blurred lines between reality and technology. “This was a project eight years in the making,” Leone shared, recalling a VFX promo shot with her husband. The film, slated for a late 2025 or early 2026 release, uses AI for visual effects, character creation, and even music, pushing boundaries in Indian cinema. Leone emphasized its potential: “This type of cinema is an addition to the industry. It will create more jobs and take films in a different direction.”

Responding to the Critics: Knowledge Over Fear

Leone directly addressed Kashyap and Motwane’s skepticism, who have voiced concerns about AI replacing human creativity. “I think when you have knowledge, then you can understand,” she said, inviting dialogue: “If Anurag Sir was sitting here, I would want him to understand my point of view.” She views AI as a tool, not a replacement, echoing her 2024 launch of an AI avatar for fan interactions. “I don’t look at AI as a threat. I look at it as a new tool,” Leone affirmed, stressing responsible use. Her husband, Daniel Weber, added pride in the project’s innovation, noting its role in establishing AI’s cinematic potential globally.

A Cinematic Shift Ahead

Leone’s response reframes AI as an ally, asking: Can technology enhance, not erode, creativity? With Kaur vs Kore’s poster unveiling, she’s leading the charge, proving Bollywood can innovate without fear.
