
Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 16 (PTI) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the 21st century belongs to 140 crore Indians and expressed confidence that India will become a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, the centenary year of Independence. Highlighting the strength of the Make in India ecosystem, he noted the role of homegrown capabilities during Operation Sindoor, the military offensive launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore, Modi praised Andhra Pradesh’s leadership under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his deputy Pawan Kalyan, citing strong cooperation from the Central government. He also pointed to Google’s AI Hub investment and the development of a new international sub-sea gateway in Visakhapatnam, linking undersea cable systems from multiple countries.
The PM emphasized the state’s rapid progress under the double engine government, describing Andhra Pradesh as a hub of self-respect, culture, science, and innovation. He recalled past challenges under the Congress government, noting low electricity consumption and frequent blackouts, while highlighting the current government’s infrastructure and industrial advancements.
During the visit, Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects across industry, power transmission, roads, railways, defence manufacturing, and petroleum and natural gas sectors. These included the Kurnool-III Pooling Station Transmission System, the Orvakal and Kopparthy Industrial Areas, modern multi-sectoral hubs expected to attract Rs 21,000 crore in investments and create around one lakh jobs, and several road and railway projects including the six-lane Sabbavaram-Sheelanagar highway and railway line expansions.
In the energy sector, the PM inaugurated the Srikakulam-Angul Natural Gas Pipeline, Indian Oil’s LPG bottling plant at Chittoor, and the Advanced Night Vision Products Factory by Bharat Electronics Limited at Nimmaluru.
Earlier, Modi visited the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam in Srisailam, performing Rudrabhishekam, and later visited the Sree Shivaji Spoorthi Kendra, a memorial featuring models of iconic forts and a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji in meditation, commemorating his historic visit to the shrine in 1677.
