Dharmasthala Case: SIT Likely to Submit Probe Report by October-End, Says Home Minister Parameshwara

Bengaluru, Oct 27 (PTI) — Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged murders, rapes, and burials in the temple town of Dharmasthala is likely to submit its report by the end of October.

Parameshwara said it remains to be seen whether the report will be final or interim. “The SIT has said they would give the report in October — probably before October 31, give or take a couple of days. We have told them to make it comprehensive and submit the final report,” he told reporters.

He added that the report will be filed after receiving results from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and chemical analysis of the skeletal remains collected during the probe. “After completing all this, they said they will submit the report — probably by the end of this month,” he said.

A major controversy erupted after C N Chinnaiah, later arrested for perjury, claimed he had buried multiple bodies — including those of women allegedly subjected to sexual assault — in Dharmasthala over the past two decades, allegedly implicating temple administrators.

The SIT, formed by the state government, has since conducted excavations across multiple sites identified by the complainant along the Netravathi River, where skeletal remains were discovered at two locations.

Recently, the SIT again recovered skeletal remains during a search operation in the Banglegudde forest area near the Nethravathi bathing ghat.
