Jaishankar Meets New Zealand PM Luxon, Malaysian FM Hasan on ASEAN Sidelines

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 27 (PTI) — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Haji Hasan on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, discussing bilateral ties and regional developments.

Jaishankar, who is attending the annual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, said he conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Luxon. “Welcome his commitment to advance our bilateral cooperation and nurture a free and open Indo-Pacific,” he posted on X.

Describing his meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Hasan as “warm,” Jaishankar said the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on the Myanmar situation. He also conveyed best wishes for successful ASEAN and East Asia Summits.

On Sunday, Jaishankar met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and people-to-people linkages.

Malaysia, currently chairing ASEAN, is hosting the annual summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur. The 11-nation ASEAN bloc is among the most influential regional groupings, with India, the US, China, Japan, and Australia as dialogue partners.
