Actor Pavitra Punia, who recently announced her engagement with a US-based businessman, has opened up about one of her biggest regrets in life: turning down major projects for love. The 39-year-old television and reality show star shared her candid thoughts about the sacrifices she made in her past relationship and how those experiences shaped her perspective on balancing career and personal life.
Sacrifices for Love: A Major Regret
In a recent interview, Pavitra revealed that she turned down significant opportunities with major streaming platforms and production houses because of pressure from her ex-partner. “I have lost out on a project for a big streaming platform. I regret those past decisions because it wasn’t even about what they were asking; it was hardly 1% intimacy, and I still said no for love,” she admitted. The actor, who was earlier dating fellow actor Eijaz Khan, explained that these were projects she genuinely wanted to pursue but had to abandon due to her relationship dynamics at the time.
The decision to prioritize her relationship over her career haunts her even today. “I made that sacrifice,” she said, reflecting on how those missed opportunities could have substantially shaped her professional trajectory and growth as an artist.
The Reality Check: Breaking the Chain
Pavitra elaborated on the circumstances that led her to make these sacrifices, revealing that her ex-partner wasn’t comfortable with the nature of the projects being offered to her. “I was in a relationship back then, and the other person wasn’t comfortable with the kind of project I was being offered. I forgot that my personal and professional lives are completely different,” she explained. The actor emphasized that being in the same environment and field, her partner should have understood industry dynamics instead of holding her back.
The turning point came when Pavitra realized she needed to break free from this cycle. “Saying no to big production houses and OTT platforms, I don’t ever want to repeat that. I should never have been pressurised into saying no to work or worried about what he would think,” she stressed. The experience became a crucial wake-up call that nobody but herself should make decisions about her career.
Choosing Herself: A Journey of Growth
According to Pavitra, this realization transformed her approach to life and work. “It made me realise that the only person who should decide for me is me. I don’t want to repeat the mistake of saying no to something that could help me grow just because I’m worried about someone else’s opinion,” she asserted. Today, she stands firm in her commitment to never compromise on opportunities that could contribute to her professional development.
Pavitra’s journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by continuous evolution and unlearning. She rose to prominence through television dramas and later became known for her fiery presence in reality shows, most recently in “Reality Rani Season 2.” She acknowledged that these experiences demanded more than just acting skills. “Reality shows aren’t easy, they’re about endurance, survival, and mental strength. You’re stripped of comfort, of appearances, of everything that makes you feel secure,” she reflected.
Embracing Versatility and Growth
As her career progresses, Pavitra has become increasingly open to challenging roles that push her emotional and physical boundaries. “Change is mandatory. If you don’t change, you stop growing. I’ve started exploring roles that demand emotional and physical depth,” she shared. However, she remains careful not to compromise her values and personal integrity in the pursuit of these opportunities.
Despite exploring new avenues in films and web series, television remains the foundation of her career and holds a special place in her heart. “No matter how many OTT or film projects come my way, I’ll always return to television if time allows. It’s where I started—it’s my foundation,” she concluded, emphasizing that growth is ultimately a choice. This time, Pavitra is choosing herself.
