India’s First AI Actor Naina Avtr Makes Her Debut in Micro-Drama ‘Truth & Lies’

Naina Avtr

India’s entertainment landscape has witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the debut of Naina Avtr, the country’s first AI actor, in the micro-drama series titled Truth & Lies. Created by Avtr Meta Labs, a Concept Communication Group initiative, Naina represents a fusion of cutting-edge technology and the emotional depth of traditional human storytelling. While she initially gained fame as India’s first AI influencer, her transition into acting marks a significant milestone in AI-driven entertainment.

The 12-episode series, presented by Nature4Nature as the title sponsor, is now available on Naina Avtr’s official Instagram handle, offering viewers a glimpse into the future of digital performance.

The Vision Behind Naina Avtr

Abhishek Razdhan, co-founder and CEO of Avtr Meta Labs, explained that Naina’s creation began with a simple question: “What if technology could feel human?” Unlike international AI avatars that tend to be technologically impressive yet emotionally distant, Naina was built on what Razdhan calls “Indian emotional grammar”—family, friendship, drama, and humor—the elements that define Indian storytelling.

Rather than striving for perfection, the team focused on empathy, authenticity, and relatability. “India doesn’t connect to perfection; it connects to emotion. So we gave Naina flaws, doubts, humor, and a voice that sounds like she belongs, not like a machine trying to belong,” Razdhan stated. He described her as “a digital human who feels real, performs like a creator, and evolves like an artist”.

About ‘Truth & Lies’

Set against the backdrop of a single intense night in Mumbai, Truth & Lies delivers a gripping narrative through cinematic episodes just over a minute long, specifically crafted for Instagram Reels. The series explores complex themes of friendship, betrayal, and the blurred lines between truth and deception, combining the emotional depth of full-length drama with a format designed for Gen Z audiences.

In a creative milestone, the entire series was shot by an all-female crew, symbolizing empowerment, inclusivity, and the evolving face of storytelling in the digital era.

Naina’s Unique Capabilities

Naina Avtr stands apart from traditional CGI characters with her ability to deliver lifelike expressions, natural dialogue flow, and impressive emotional accuracy. Her key capabilities include adaptive emotion modeling, real-time voice and expression synchronization, genre-flexible personality design, and instant script adaptation. She can adjust her tone, speed, and facial cues in real time, eliminating the need for retakes.

Working Alongside Human Actors

In Truth & Lies, Naina appears on-screen with human performers, a collaboration that Razdhan described as both technically demanding and creatively rewarding. “Technically, it’s complex, matching eyelines, lighting, and emotional rhythm between human and AI performers. But creatively, it’s beautiful. When done right, the line between the two disappears. You’re not watching an experiment; you’re watching a story unfold. That’s when technology truly becomes art,” he explained.

Ethical Considerations and Responsible AI

Avtr Meta Labs has positioned Naina around what Razdhan calls “responsible imagination”. All narratives involving the AI actor undergo ethical checks related to misrepresentation, consent, and misinformation. “AI shouldn’t manipulate; it should mirror. Naina’s purpose is to spark conversations, not sell illusions,” Razdhan emphasized.

Naina vs. Global AI Celebrities

When compared to Hollywood’s AI-generated actor Tilly Norwood, created by talent studio Xicoia, Razdhan noted that the two represent different creative philosophies. “Tilly is the Western, cinematic interpretation of AI celebrity. Naina represents cultural empathy at scale,” he said. When asked about a potential collaboration, Razdhan envisioned “a story about identity, two digital women from different cultures trying to understand what ‘real’ means in a synthetic world. Something between ‘Her’ and ‘Black Mirror’ but with humor, hope, and maybe even a song”.

A Digital Star’s Journey

Before her acting debut, Naina had already made waves as India’s first AI influencer, captivating audiences on social media with her distinct personality and digital charm. She even hosted The nAIna Show, India’s first podcast with an AI-generated host, featuring celebrities like Sobhita Dhulipala, Sanya Malhotra, and Richa Chadha. Embodied as a 20-year-old fashion model from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, who relocated to Mumbai with dreams of making it in the acting world, Naina has built a substantial fan following on Instagram.

What’s Next for AI Entertainment

Razdhan views Naina’s debut as “the beginning of a new entertainment era, powered by AI”. The success of Truth & Lies could pave the way for more AI-led storytelling in India, following the footsteps of JioHotstar’s Mahabharat – Ek Dharmayudh, which was India’s first AI-powered series.

If given the chance to place Naina in a Bollywood film, Razdhan chose Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Tamasha for its themes of identity and self-discovery. “Because it’s a film about masks, identity, and finding your voice in a scripted world. That’s exactly what Naina represents, the idea that authenticity can exist even inside code,” he said.

As AI technology continues to reshape the entertainment industry, Naina Avtr stands as a testament to how digital innovation can complement traditional storytelling while maintaining emotional resonance and cultural relevance.
