Aditya Dhar’s espionage action-thriller Dhurandhar, which debuted on November 24, 2025, captivated the internet with its explosive trailer. Ranveer Singh’s never-seen-before undercover operative look, combined with the “inspired by true events” tagline, immediately sparked comparisons to the real-life heroics of Major Mohit Sharma, the Ashoka Chakra awardee who infiltrated Hizbul Mujahideen as “Iftikhar Bhatt” before his martyrdom in 2009. Within hours, several media outlets and social media posts began claiming the film was loosely based on Major Sharma’s life.
The Family’s Heartfelt Objection
On November 25, Major Mohit Sharma’s elder brother, Madhur Sharma, issued an emotional public appeal, stating that the speculation was causing immense distress to his elderly parents. “They are waiting for just one confirmation — is this film about their son or not?” he wrote, clarifying that no one from the production had ever contacted the family.
Aditya Dhar’s Swift and Respectful Clarification
Hours later, Aditya Dhar responded with an official statement that put an immediate end to all rumors: “Dhurandhar is NOT based on the life of the braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification from the team. If we ever decide to make a biopic on Major Mohit Sharma in the future, we will do it only with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a manner that truly honours his supreme sacrifice and legacy.”Dhar directly addressed Madhur Sharma, expressing deep respect for the fallen officer and assuring the family that their concerns had been heard and honoured.
A Rare and Admired Act of Responsibility
The director’s prompt, dignified response has been widely appreciated across the industry and by audiences. Many have called it a textbook example of how filmmakers should handle sensitive real-life stories, especially when dealing with the legacy of India’s armed forces.
Dhurandhar Returns to Its Original Narrative
With the speculation firmly laid to rest, Dhurandhar — starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal — can now move forward as the pure fictional espionage thriller it was always intended to be. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on December 5, 2025, and continues to be one of the most awaited action films of the season.
