Ranveer Singh’s espionage action thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has navigated a rigorous Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) review, securing an ‘A’ (Adults Only) rating after several modifications. The board’s clearance, announced on December 2, 2025, comes just three days before the film’s scheduled worldwide release on December 5, 2025. Amid earlier controversies involving a family complaint over potential real-life inspirations, the CBFC confirmed the movie is “a work of fiction” with no direct or indirect resemblance to any specific individual’s life. The certification process, including a fresh examination ordered by the Delhi High Court, ensured compliance while preserving the film’s intense narrative.
The Cuts and Changes: Balancing Intensity with Guidelines
The Examining Committee, which viewed the film on November 28, 2025, recommended the ‘A’ certificate with minor adjustments to align with certification norms. Key changes include toning down several violent scenes to reduce graphic content, muting a prominent cuss word, and adding an anti-drug disclaimer in relevant sequences. Additionally, a minister’s name in one scene was subtly altered for sensitivity, and music along with visuals was incorporated into the end credits to enhance the viewing experience. These modifications trimmed the runtime slightly to 214 minutes (3 hours 34 minutes), making Dhurandhar one of the longest Bollywood films in recent years, surpassing 2018’s Padmaavat (163 minutes). The board emphasized that the film contains no material connecting it to Major Mohit Sharma, the Ashoka Chakra awardee whose family had raised concerns, clearing the way for an unhindered release.
Dhar’s Vision Intact: Fiction’s Fierce Frontier
Aditya Dhar, who wrote, directed, and co-produced the film under Jio Studios and B62 Studios, expressed relief at the clearance. “Dhurandhar is a work of fiction inspired by broader themes of espionage and resilience—its heart remains untouched,” he stated. Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead alongside Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, the thriller explores covert operations and moral dilemmas with high-stakes action. The CBFC’s approval, following a court-directed reassessment on December 1, 2025, reaffirms the film’s standalone narrative, free from any real-life parallels.
Audience Anticipation: A December Dhamaka Awaits
With advance bookings already underway, Dhurandhar is poised for a strong opening, projected at ₹100 crore in its first week. Fans are eager for the unrated intensity: “CBFC cuts? Still sounds like a beast—Ranveer’s wrath awaits!” In Bollywood’s action-packed December slate, the film’s ‘A’ rating underscores its mature themes, ensuring a thrilling ride for adult audiences.
A Certification Secured: Dhurandhar’s Unfettered Unleash
Dhurandhar’s CBFC clearance isn’t compromise—it’s conquest. As cuts carve clarity, it thunders: Can fiction fearlessly fight? Dhar’s daring decree affirms yes, scripting a saga where spies strike supreme in cinema’s ceaseless clash.
