New Delhi, Dec 23 (PTI) The BJP on Tuesday hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in Berlin, alleging that the Congress leader speaks against India on foreign soil because he is “rattled” by the growing “no confidence” in him from party colleagues, INDIA bloc allies and even family members.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that Gandhi has lost public confidence, pointing to the Congress losing 95 elections under his leadership. He accused the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha of defaming the country abroad after Gandhi alleged that the BJP was proposing the “elimination of the Constitution” and launching a full-scale assault on India’s institutions.

Speaking at the Hertie School in Berlin last week, Gandhi accused the BJP of capturing democratic institutions to consolidate political power, asserting that this was what the opposition was fighting against. In a video released by the Congress on Monday, he said India’s democracy is a global asset and that any “assault” on it is also an attack on the global democratic system.

Responding to the remarks, Poonawalla said, “Rahul Gandhi is facing no confidence from people. His partners in the INDIA bloc, his own party leaders and even his family members are also passing a no-confidence motion against him one after another.”

He alleged that Gandhi repeatedly goes abroad to “vent his ire against the BJP and India,” claiming that he is unable to accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people’s mandate. “Rahul Gandhi, once again in opposition to Modi and the people’s mandate, started opposing India in Berlin,” he said.

Poonawalla claimed that Gandhi is unsettled because his own party colleagues are “rejecting what he says.” He cited Congress MP Imran Masood’s reported statement seeking Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as an alternative leadership face, which he said was endorsed by Robert Vadra. He also referred to CPI(M) MP John Brittas’s remark that Gandhi should not have gone abroad during a Parliament session, and claimed that allies like the DMK were uncomfortable with what he described as Gandhi’s “Bharat badnami yatra”.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had “completely diffused” Gandhi’s “vote-chori (vote-theft) narrative” by praising the NDA’s work in Bihar over the past two decades.

Poonawalla said the Congress under Gandhi’s leadership has turned into a “Bharat badnami brigade” and is engaged in spreading “baseless and misleading” propaganda against India, its constitutional institutions and democratic processes. PTI PK RC
