Jaishankar meets UNESCO DG at Paris, highlights India’s commitment to heritage preservation

Paris, Jan 9 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met UNESCO Director General Khaled El-Enany and underlined India’s commitment to advance engagement with the UN entity in culture, education and heritage preservation globally.

Jaishankar, who is on a six-day visit to France and Luxembourg, also interacted with members of India-France Parliamentary Friendship Group here.

“A multilateral world is inherently multicultural. Underlined India’s commitment to advance engagement with @UNESCO in culture, education and heritage preservation globally,” Jaishankar said in a post on X after meeting with El-Enany.

The minister also paid his respects at the bust of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at the UNESCO headquarters. “His ideals of social justice and inclusivity are a guiding light for humanity,” he said in another post on X.

Jaishankar held a “warm conversation” with members of India-France Parliamentary Friendship Group and parliamentary friends of India.

“Discussed the state of the world, impact of technology and enabling a global workplace. Affirmed possibilities for deeper India-France cooperation driven by our shared strategic outlook,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Jaishankar met with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed contemporary global developments and appreciated his “positive sentiments for our Strategic Partnership.” PTI NPK NPK NPK
