A short clip from Shah Rukh Khan’s appearance at the Joy Awards 2026 in Riyadh has triggered a wave of online reactions, with many users defending the actor and calling the moment a matter of on-stage protocol rather than attitude. The ceremony was held on January 17, 2026, according to the event’s official listing.

The viral video—circulating widely across social platforms—shows Khan on stage during an award presentation when an attendee beside him attempts to take a quick selfie. Khan is seen smiling, briefly taking the phone, and gesturing toward the official photographers/camera positioned in front of the stage before returning the device and continuing with the ceremony.

Mixed reactions, strong defence

While some posts framed the gesture as dismissive, a large share of commenters argued the opposite: that live award ceremonies run on strict timing and camera blocking, and unscheduled selfies can disrupt the presentation and the official broadcast visuals. Several users also pointed out that Khan’s gesture appeared aimed at ensuring the moment was captured properly by the front-facing cameras rather than via a rushed, awkward-angle selfie on stage.

The clip’s original social captioning also acknowledged how such moments can be misread in a tightly managed, high-security event environment, adding that opinions were divided.

No official comment from SRK

As of the latest reports, Khan has not issued a public response to the debate. The conversation has largely remained a social-media back-and-forth, with defenders framing the moment as professionalism and critics reading it as a snub.
