BTS May Return With Free Show at Gwanghwamun Square; Agency Says Talks On

BTS could stage a major free public performance in central Seoul as part of their long-awaited full-group return in March 2026, with Gwanghwamun Square emerging as the headline location under discussion. South Korean reports indicate the plan is not final yet, with multiple approvals still required.

What’s Confirmed So Far: Conditional Approval, More Clearances Pending

Cultural heritage authorities have conditionally approved HYBE’s request to use key historic areas in and around Gwanghwamun/Gyeongbokgung (and other sites) for the project—primarily for filming and related production elements. However, this does not automatically greenlight a mass concert; additional permissions from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and safety agencies would still be needed before anything becomes official.

The Scale Being Discussed: Crowd Caps, Pre-Registration, and a Second Venue

According to officials cited in reports, HYBE has floated a plan for a concert for about 18,000 people at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21 (the day after the reported comeback date), and another event for roughly 30,000 at Seoul Plaza—both still subject to approvals.

Other coverage has indicated attendance could be limited to around 15,000–20,000, likely managed via structured entry/safety controls rather than an unrestricted “walk-in” crowd.

HYBE’s Official Line: “Discussions Are Ongoing”

With speculation exploding online, BIGHIT MUSIC responded cautiously, telling Newsen (as quoted by multiple outlets): talks are ongoing and a formal announcement will come only after the venue and schedule are finalized.

Why Gwanghwamun Square Is a Big Deal

Gwanghwamun Square is not just a venue—it’s Seoul’s most symbolic civic corridor, framed by heritage landmarks and built to host major public gatherings. The city has previously outlined how large-scale events there require transport, crowd-flow, and emergency coordination, underscoring why approvals and safety planning are central to any BTS-scale show.

The Bottom Line

Right now, the story is momentum, not confirmation: BTS’s agency acknowledges discussions, heritage authorities have provided conditional clearance for parts of the plan, and city-level approvals will decide whether a free Gwanghwamun Square show becomes reality.

If the green signal arrives, Seoul won’t just host a concert—it will host a global homecoming.
