Former Bollywood actor Mamta Kulkarni has announced that she is stepping down from her role as a Mahamandaleshwar associated with the Kinnar Akhada, calling it a personal, spiritually guided decision. In her note (shared publicly), she said the resignation would take effect January 27, 2026, and emphasised she was making the decision “in a proper state of mind.”
What she said: “Truth doesn’t need symbols”
In her resignation message, Mamta underlined that her spiritual journey would continue without formal titles. One line that stood out — widely reported in Indian media — was her idea that truth doesn’t require external markers (clothing/idols), and that she intends to carry her spiritual understanding forward in a more inward, personal way.
She also stated she had no complaint against Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, expressing gratitude for the respect and honour she received.
The Kinnar Akhada angle: resignation vs “expulsion” reports
Alongside her resignation, a separate stream of reports from Prayagraj indicated that Kinnar Akhara leadership had announced her removal/ending of association amid a fresh controversy—linked to remarks around Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand during the ongoing Magh Mela situation.
In other words: the public narrative currently carries two parallel tracks—Mamta presenting it as a voluntary spiritual step-down, and Akhada leadership describing it as a disciplinary separation.
A quick rewind: how she got the title
Mamta was anointed as Mahamandaleshwar during Maha Kumbh/Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj (reported around Jan 24–25, 2025), and was given the spiritual name “Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.”
At the time, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi told ANI that Mamta had been in touch with the Akhada for about 1.5 years before the consecration.
Not the first time: the 2025 resignation-and-return episode
This isn’t Mamta’s first public exit from the post. In February 2025, she announced she was stepping down—then returned days later, saying her guru did not accept the resignation and she would continue serving under that guidance.
That earlier cycle is important context for readers, because it shows her association with the Akhada has been eventful and frequently in the public eye.
