Preparations are underway for Itkhori Mahotsav 2026, a three-day cultural and religious festival scheduled from February 19 to February 21 in Itkhori (Chatra district). The mahotsav—initiated in 2015 and recognised as a state fair in 2016—is expected to spotlight the region’s heritage through performances, tourism activities, and spiritual observances.
A Confluence of Faiths and Heritage
Itkhori is widely known as a meeting point of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain traditions, with the Maa Bhadrakali Temple complex and nearby heritage sites forming the cultural heart of the town. The festival’s theme of cultural harmony draws from this layered identity.
Cultural Evenings and Performances
The district administration has planned cultural evenings on all three days, featuring performances by invited artists from multiple states, along with appearances by well-known Bollywood personalities as part of the programme line-up.
Adventure Activities: Water Sports and Paragliding
To add a tourism-and-youth element, organisers have scheduled:
- Water sports on February 19 and 20 at Buxa Dam (Itkhori)
- Paragliding on the first two days at Lakshmanpur Bhedi farm dam
Grand Ganga Aarti on February 21
A key highlight will be a grand Ganga Aarti on February 21, planned on the banks of the Mahane River near the Maa Bhadrakali Temple, blending devotional ritual with community participation.
Why It Matters for Tourism and Local Economy
Located about 150 km from Ranchi, Itkhori’s “mini-temple town” identity makes it a significant religious and heritage stop. The mahotsav is expected to support local artisans, small businesses, and hospitality through increased visitor movement during the three-day window.
