Kochi, Feb 17: Actor Jayaram, who appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday for questioning in a money laundering probe linked to the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala shrine, said everyone involved should be brought to book and that “Lord Ayyappa will not spare the culprits”.
The ED had earlier issued a summons to the actor in connection with its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of gold from the shrine.
Speaking to reporters outside the ED office in Kochi, Jayaram said Sabarimala holds a special place in the hearts of people across the country, noting that devotees are welcome there irrespective of caste or religion. If any “scam” has occurred at such a shrine, he said, it must come to light, including the role of those involved, and that people in Kerala have an obligation to cooperate in uncovering the truth.
Jayaram said he has been invited over the years to participate in pujas and temple events and attends as many as possible. He said that was how he was invited for a puja connected to Sabarimala artefacts, adding that he had received such invitations from Unnikrishnan Potty and others on multiple occasions.
He said the court and investigating agencies are examining whether there was any irregularity behind the events and added that if the ED is able to obtain any useful information from him, it would aid the process of bringing out the truth.
“Let anyone else involved also be caught,” he said.
Last month, Jayaram was questioned by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Dwarapalaka (guardian deity) idols and the door frames of the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum), officials said.
