Kannada film star Kichcha Sudeep is reportedly set to reunite with director S. S. Rajamouli in the upcoming Indian blockbuster Varanasi, according to industry sources. If confirmed, this marks another collaboration between the duo after their work together on Eega and Baahubali: The Beginning, films that significantly bolstered Sudeep’s pan-India recognition.
Though no official announcement has been made by the film’s makers, multiple trade insiders suggest that Sudeep may play an important character, extending beyond a typical cameo. During recent promotions for his release Mark, Sudeep had emphasized that any brief appearance he makes must be meaningful and pivotal to the story – comments that have fuelled speculation about his role in Varanasi.
What Varanasi Is All About
Varanasi is one of Indian cinema’s most anticipated releases, directed by Rajamouli, the acclaimed filmmaker behind global hits such as Baahubali and RRR. The action-adventure film stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role as Rudhra, a powerful and dynamic protagonist whose journey is teased through mind-bending visuals in the film’s title teaser.
The narrative appears to span broad timelines and locations, potentially incorporating elements of time travel and mythological symbolism with glimpses of settings like Antarctica and ancient Indian cities featured in early footage. However, Rajamouli has deliberately avoided confirming specific plot points, encouraging audiences to interpret clues from the teaser themselves.
A Star-Studded Ensemble
In addition to Mahesh Babu and Sudeep’s reported involvement, Varanasi also features Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a key role, marking her return to Indian cinema. Chopra has publicly described the project as “unlike anything” she’s done before and even requested a choreography sequence as part of her commitment to returning home to feature films.
Another notable addition to the cast is veteran actor Prakash Raj, who has confirmed his involvement, revealing he portrays a Maha Shiv Bhakt, further adding depth to the ensemble.
The film’s music is composed by renowned Oscar-winning musician M.M. Keeravani, with the story penned by V. Vijayendra Prasad. Varanasi is slated for a theatrical release on April 7, 2027, positioning it as a major cinematic event for Indian and global audiences alike.
Industry Expectations and Impact
With Rajamouli at the helm and a cast that spans multiple Indian film industries and star power, Varanasi is widely projected to be one of the most ambitious Indian films of recent years. The reported inclusion of Kichcha Sudeep known for commanding screen presence and versatility has only heightened anticipation around the project.
As production continues and official confirmations trickle out, fans and trade watchers will be closely following updates on roles, narrative themes, and further casting developments ahead of its release next year.
