Four militants arrested in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 20 (PTI) Security forces arrested four militants belonging to various proscribed outfits in Manipur for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, police said on Friday.

Two members of the banned People’s Liberation Army were apprehended from the Makha area in Imphal West district and Porompat in Imphal East on Thursday, a police statement said.

“One 9 mm pistol with a magazine, and four live rounds were recovered from their possession,” it said.

An active cadre of outlawed Prepak (Pro) was also arrested from the Khewa Bazar in Imphal East district on Thursday.

A member of the banned UPPK was apprehended from the Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai area in Bishnupur district a day ago, the police statement said.

In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the Keirak Awang Loukon Chingol area in Kakching district, it said.

Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.

More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic strife between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023. PTI CORR BDC
