Kolkata, Feb 27 (PTI) Earthquake tremors were felt in Kolkata and adjoining districts of West Bengal on Friday afternoon, triggering panic among residents.
There was no immediate report of loss of life or damage to property, officials said.
The magnitude and epicentre of the quake were not immediately known.
The tremors, which lasted a few seconds, were reported from several parts of the city and nearby areas, including high-rise residential complexes and busy marketplaces.
Residents in many neighbourhoods said ceiling fans swayed, furniture shook and windows rattled, with the impact more pronounced in multi-storey buildings.
