Kolkata, March 10: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday used a symbolic drawing at her protest site in central Kolkata to sharpen her attack on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. On the fifth day of her dharna at Metro Channel, Banerjee wrote “SIR” and “Vanish” on a green board and then partially whitewashed sections of it, apparently to suggest that genuine voters were being erased from the rolls.

Banerjee has been staging the sit-in since March 6, alleging that the Election Commission’s revision exercise has led to large-scale deletion of legitimate voters ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Over the past few days, she has repeatedly accused the poll panel of acting with political bias and has also used the phrase “Vanish Commission” in her criticism of the exercise.
