Puducherry, Mar 11 (PTI) The Puducherry government on Wednesday said there is sufficient stock of domestic LPG cylinders in the Union Territory and urged public not to believe rumours of shortages.

Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of Puducherry, in a release, warned that any diversion of domestic cylinders to other purposes will attract action under the provisions of Essential Commodities Act 1955, the provisions of Petroleum Products (Maintenance of Production, Storage and Supply ) Order, 1999 and also under other applicable laws for the time being in force.

The official said the government has received information that certain unauthorised sources have been circulating rumours of a shortage of LPG cylinders across the Union Territory.

He further said, “Discussions have been held with the Oil Marketing Companies who have assured that there will be no disruption in the supply of LPG cylinders and that the cylinders would continue to be supplied to consumers without any hurdle.” He termed as “false and misleading” any news regarding shortage of domestic LPG cylinders.

The territorial government was closely monitoring the situation and has already initiated necessary measures in coordination with Oil Marketing Companies to ensure continuous supply of the LPG cylinders to the households.

The Centre has also directed that the LPG cylinders should be made available only to domestic consumers. “Any diversion of domestic cylinders for other purposes would attract strict action under the Act,” he warned.

Appealing to the public not to panic, the Director said consumers are advised to cooperate with the authorities and rely only on official information provided by the government. PTI COR ROH
