Ludhiana DC stresses importance of community cooperation and vigilance

Ludhiana, May 9 (PTI) Amid military conflict between India and Pakistan, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Friday reassured the public that there is no need to panic, and stressed the importance of community cooperation and vigilance.

In a video message, Jain highlighted that the district administration is working closely with defense authorities to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

“We are fully alert and committed to maintaining peace in the district,” he said, urging citizens to remain calm and cooperate with the administration.

To address emergencies, the administration has established a dedicated control room at the District Administrative Complex. Jain encouraged residents to contact 0161-2403100 or the emergency helpline ‘112’ for immediate assistance in case of any exigency.

He stressed the importance of community cooperation and vigilance to ensure smooth coordination during this time.

In a measure to safeguard the district, Jain announced a ban on the use of all kinds of drones across Ludhiana. This restriction applies to all events, including weddings and other social functions, with no exceptions, he said.

Additionally, bursting firecrackers has been prohibited to maintain order and security.

He urged the public to comply strictly with these directives to avoid legal consequences.

Jain also issued a stern directive regarding the mandatory blackout guidelines as and when issued, which must be followed by all residents, institutions, and establishments, including hotels, marriage organisers, liquor vends, restaurants, shops, he said.

“Everyone must switch off all lights during the blackout period. In case of emergencies, black curtains must be used on windows to ensure compliance,” he instructed.

Non-compliance with the blackout regulations will result in strict action, and the administration has warned that violators will face punitive action.

Tensions have escalated between the two neighbouring countries after Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes early on Wednesday on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

According to the defence ministry, the Pakistani military attempted to target Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj on Thursday night.

The renewed attempts by the Pakistani forces came after the Indian armed forces carried out the precise missile strikes on Wednesday on the nine terror targets under Operation Sindoor. PTI SUN MNK MNK
