Fed Up with Mumbai Roads, Sudhaa Chandran Says She First Asks About Shoot Location

Sudhaa Chandran

Veteran actress and classical dancer Sudhaa Chandran has voiced her growing frustration with Mumbai’s notoriously poor road conditions, revealing that the city’s persistent traffic jams and dug-up stretches have made her cautious about accepting work. In a recent interview and social media outburst, Sudhaa shared how the chaotic commute has forced her to prioritize shoot locations before committing to projects.

The Triggering Incident Near Madh Island

On March 17, 2026, Sudhaa found herself stuck in heavy traffic for over 25 minutes en route to a shoot at Madh Island. The delay was caused by poorly maintained, dug-up roads and unfinished construction work that has plagued the area for over a year. Frustrated, she recorded a video from inside her car and posted it on Instagram, directly appealing to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate action.

In the strongly worded clip, she said: “I am going to Madh Island, and the roads here are dug up so badly that I am stuck in traffic for the last 25 minutes. How will we go to work? Please repair these roads so that we can reach our workplace on time. We don’t want producers to bear losses because we are not reaching on time. This is my appeal to BMC to fix these roads because they have been in the same condition since last year.”

A New Precaution in Her Career

The incident highlighted a deeper issue for Sudhaa, who has been a prominent figure in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and other regional cinema and TV for decades. She revealed that Mumbai’s unreliable infrastructure has led her to adopt a practical approach: she now first inquires about the shoot location before agreeing to any project. This ensures she can anticipate commute challenges and avoid unnecessary delays that could impact schedules or cause financial strain on productions.

Echoing a Wider Celebrity Sentiment

Sudhaa’s plea joins a chorus of voices from the industry—including Pooja Bhatt, Richa Chadha, Dia Mirza, and others—who have repeatedly called out municipal authorities for delayed road repairs and haphazard construction. Despite ongoing complaints, many areas in Mumbai continue to face unfinished dug-up roads, exacerbating daily commutes. As one of the most resilient performers in Indian entertainment—known for overcoming personal challenges to excel in dance and acting—Sudhaa’s frustration reflects the everyday realities faced by Mumbai’s film and TV fraternity. Her proactive step of vetting locations first may inspire others to advocate for better infrastructure.
