Shimla, Mar 23 (PTI) Hundreds joined a protest in Nalagarh in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday to demand the immediate closure of a pharmaceutical plant in the area, alleging that many residents were facing breathing difficulties due to toxic gases released from it.
Before the protest, the locals took out a rally from the Sauri gram panchayat to the office of the Nalagarh sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and raised slogans against the company, Kinvan Pharmaceuticals.
The locals claimed that toxic gases released from the plant cause a foul smell in the area and breathing difficulties for many.
Due to these gases, many people have fallen ill and dozens of panchayats have been affected by pollution. No action has been taken in the matter despite repeated complaints being made to the administration, they alleged.
The protesters threatened to intensify the stir and to not let the pharma company function if their demands are not met. PTI COR DIV DIV
