The wait for the much-anticipated Malayalam thriller Drishyam 3 has grown a little longer. The Mohanlal starrer will now release in theatres worldwide on May 21, 2026, coinciding with the superstar’s birthday. Mohanlal confirmed the new date on March 23 through social media.
Mohanlal Announces the New Date
Sharing a new poster, Mohanlal wrote, “The past never stays silent…it only waits. Georgekutty arrives, May 21st 2026. #Drishyam3 | Worldwide Release.” The film had earlier been slated for an early-April release, but will now arrive more than a month later.
Why Was the Film Delayed?
The makers have not publicly given a detailed explanation in Mohanlal’s announcement. However, several reports linked the postponement to tensions in West Asia and the possible impact on theatrical business in the Gulf, a major overseas market for Malayalam cinema. That angle is best presented as reported industry reasoning rather than a fully detailed official statement from the team.
Georgekutty Returns
Mohanlal is set to reprise his iconic role as Georgekutty in the Jeethu Joseph directorial, with Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil among the returning cast. Reports also note that principal photography wrapped in December 2025, with post-production now underway.
Birthday Release Adds to the Buzz
The new date gives the film an added emotional pull by aligning Georgekutty’s return with Mohanlal’s birthday. That timing has only added to the anticipation around the third instalment of one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest franchises.
