Mumbai, Mar 27 (PTI) Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC on Friday said Maharashtra minister Narhari Zirwal, whose video with a transperson has landed him in a controversy, should resign on moral grounds.
She, however, maintained that it was her personal opinion.
Her statement comes amid the opposition parties’ demand to sack Zirwal, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, from the ministerial post after his video surfaced on social media.
“Minister Narhari Zirwal should resign on moral grounds,” Shaina, a spokesperson of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, told PTI.
The Shiv Sena and the NCP are allies in the BJP-led Mahayuti government.
A tribal leader, Zirwal represents the Dindori assembly constituency in Nashik district.
The opposition parties have aid the controversial video showed Zirwal, Minister of Food and Drug Administration, in a compromising position with the transperson at his official residence, and alleged that the incident reflected the moral decline in Maharashtra’s politics.
The Congress has demanded that the minister should be sacked over his “obscene and unethical behaviour” Zirwal, however, claimed on Thursday that the video was doctored and someone was trying to blackmail him.
The minister was in news last month after an official in his department was allegedly caught taking a bribe. PTI PR NP
