Rs 3,340 cr being utilised to strengthen disaster readiness in J-K: Chief secretary

Jammu, Mar 31 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Tuesday said an amount of Rs 3,340 crore is being utilised to strengthen disaster readiness across the Union Territory.

Chairing a high-level review meeting to assess the roadmap and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster management mechanisms across the UT, he called for sustained efforts to build a disaster-resilient J-K through long-term and evidence-based planning.

Emphasising a proactive and resilient approach, Dulloo directed the concerned departments to effectively plan and utilise funds amounting to Rs 3,340 crore earmarked under various components of disaster management, mitigation and risk reduction across all districts.

He underscored the need for a focused and structured approach across six key verticals of disaster management including early warning systems, risk reduction, relief and response, rehabilitation, reconstruction and capacity-building and training.

Stressing the importance of expert-driven policy formulation, he directed the department to undertake a detailed analysis through the constituted expert committee for developing precise and actionable recommendations tailored for each department.

He emphasised leveraging mitigation funds under glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF), landslides and floods to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance preparedness. PTI TAS TAS KSS KSS
