ISI gets full-time director after six months
Kolkata, Apr 1 (PTI) The Indian Statistical Institute has appointed noted mathematician Amartya Kumar Dutta as its new full-term director, with effect from Wednesday, according to an official notification.
The last full-time director of the premier institute was Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, whose term expired in September last year, following which officiating directors had been leading the ISI.
According to the notification, “Prof Amartya Kumar Dutta is appointed as the Director of the Indian Statistical Institute for a period of five years or until he attains the age of superannuation, whichever is earlier, with effect from April 1, 2026.” Dutta, currently a professor of mathematics at the institute, was selected by a three-member search committee constituted by the ISI Council, its apex administrative body.
He replaced outgoing officiating director Ayanendranath Basu, whose term ended on March 30. PTI SUS NN NN
