UP man arrested while smuggling opium from Jharkhand to Punjab on motorcycle
Garhwa, Apr 1 (PTI) A 21-year-old man from UP was arrested with opium in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district, police said on Wednesday.
Ansh Shukla of UP’s Hardoi district was intercepted on Tuesday during a vehicle-checking drive in the Ramna police station area following a tip-off, they said.
“The accused, along with another person, was travelling on a motorcycle. He told police that the consignment was being transported for sale in Punjab. His associate managed to escape,” SDPO (Vanshidhar Nagar) Satyendra Narayan Singh said.
A total of 1.85 kg of opium, estimated to be worth Rs 9.25 lakh, was seized, he said.
The motorcycle, having a Punjab registration number, was seized, he added.
A case was lodged under multiple sections of the NDPS Act, police said. PTI COR RPS RPS SOM
