Patiala, Apr 2 (PTI) Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh on Thursday suspended a employee at the Government Mata Kaushalya Hospital here for allegedly misbehaving with a patient at the OPD registration counter on April 1.
The minister expressed concern after a purported video that surfaced online showed the employee breaking a glass pane with a punch. The shattered glass injured a female patient, posing a risk to others nearby.
Emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable, Singh ordered a departmental inquiry in the matter and said the contractual employee, Gurpreet Singh, will be relieved of his duties following a one-month notice period.
While inspecting the OPD registration counter, Singh directed Senior Medical Officer Dr Vikas Goyal and Dr Jaideep Bhatia to deploy additional staff to minimise waiting time for patients.
He reiterated that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is dedicated to enhancing healthcare and education services for the common man.
The minister advised medical and paramedical staff to maintain “soft heart and a cool head” when dealing with patients.
He noted that people visit hospitals in pain and distress; even if a patient is irritable or unwell, the staff must respond with empathy and kindness.
He also said rowdy behaviour by patients or their attendants with hospital staff is also dealt with strictly, with police cases registered where necessary.
He added that staff members who display exceptional compassion will be considered for promotions, while those guilty of misconduct will face certain action. PTI COR CHS SKY SKY
