Delhi Secretariat to welcome visitors with aviary at entrance

New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) The Public Works Department (PWD) is developing a large decorative bird enclosure at the entrance of the Delhi Secretariat.

The installation, coming up at Gate No. 6, opposite the reception area, is designed to introduce a calming ambience through the gentle sound of birds.

“The structure is being crafted using a mix of three varieties of marble and mild steel, lending it both durability and visual appeal,” an official said.

As per the plan the aviary is coming up in an open space beneath a road ramp, the enclosure is expected to be completed within a month.

Over the past few months, the department has taken up a series of maintenance and refurbishment work across the complex, focusing not just on structural upkeep but also on improving the quality of shared spaces.

Located near the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the secretariat houses the offices of the chief minister, cabinet ministers and senior bureaucrats. However, the building has long faced challenges of limited space and fragmented office layouts, which often affect administrative efficiency and employee comfort.

The ongoing upgrades, though modest in scale, reflect a growing recognition within the administration of the need for more conducive and engaging workspaces. By incorporating elements that reduce stress and enhance visual appeal, officials hope to create an atmosphere that supports productivity and well-being.

At the same time, the government is considering a proposal for a new secretariat complex at Indraprastha Estate envisions twin 35-storey towers equipped with modern infrastructure and integrated facilities. While a consultancy tender for the project was floated in December 2021, it has yet to see significant progress. PTI SSM SSM SKY SKY
