FIR lodged over circulation of tampered FSSAI documents on social media

New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) Delhi Police has registered an FIR against some social media influencers and other unidentified persons over alleged unauthorised circulation of official documents of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Police said they received a complaint from an FSSAI representative on March 12, flagging the circulation of the organisation’s official documents, which are possibly tampered with, across social media platforms.

The complainant alleged that some influencers and unidentified persons, possibly in connivance with insiders, may have been involved in spreading the content “to create distrust and harm the organisation’s reputation”.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

Police said that as part of the investigation, they are preserving digital evidence related to the case.

They have also issued notices to social media platforms, including microblogging site X, seeking details of the accounts that shared and amplified the content, according to an official statement.

“We are thoroughly examining the authenticity of the documents,” it added. PTI BM BM RUK RUK
