The dream collaboration between Aamir Khan and celebrated Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially stalled. What was being hailed as a milestone superhero project—set to be Lokesh’s grand entry into Hindi cinema—has been shelved before cameras could roll. For fans who were expecting a massive crossover, this comes as a big disappointment.

The Turning Point: Coolie Cameo Fallout

Lokesh’s recent outing Coolie, led by Rajinikanth, became a talking point not just for its massive scale but also for Aamir Khan’s brief appearance. The superstar played Dahaa, a shadowy syndicate boss, in the film’s climax. But instead of being a showstopper, his cameo landed flat with audiences.

  1. Trade chatter suggests that the muted reception to this surprise act may have directly influenced the shelving of the ambitious superhero project.
  2. It’s a rare case where the test run for a collaboration ended up derailing the bigger plan.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Priorities Shift

While the Hindi superhero saga is off the table, Lokesh isn’t short of big-ticket ventures. Two projects have already stolen the buzz:

  1. Kaithi 2 – a follow-up to the cult hit that is central to his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
  2. Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan film – an untitled gangster drama that would bring the two Tamil cinema giants together after 46 years, a casting coup that has fans on edge with excitement.

What Could Have Been

The shelved film was positioned as a mega-scale action spectacle, a project Lokesh himself once described as a passion-driven idea. Many saw it as Bollywood’s chance to finally get a credible superhero franchise. Instead, it now joins the long list of big plans that never saw the light of day.

Bollywood has struggled to crack the superhero genre (Ra.One, A Flying Jatt still haunt audiences). This cancellation only reinforces the notion that South cinema currently carries the stronger hand when it comes to risk-taking and world-building.

Aamir Khan’s Busy Slate

For Aamir, however, the setback doesn’t mean an empty calendar:

  1. He recently starred in Sitaare Zameen Par, the Hindi remake of the Spanish sports drama Champions.
  2. Next in line is a high-profile biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, which already has industry watchers intrigued.

The Final Word

The Aamir–Lokesh superhero project may be dead, but the storylines surrounding both men are alive with possibilities. Lokesh has his plate full with Tamil cinema giants, while Aamir continues to balance mainstream experiments with meaningful cinema.

Maybe this cancellation is a blessing—after all, audiences have been craving strong scripts more than capes and CGI. And perhaps Bollywood needs to pause its superhero obsession until it finds its own real heroes.
