Adobe has unveiled a major expansion of its AI capabilities by integrating Google’s popular Nano Banana engine, also known as Gemini 2.5 Flash directly into Adobe Photoshop. This strategic move allows designers, photographers, and digital artists to harness third-party AI models within Photoshop’s ecosystem, marking a significant shift in the creative tool landscape.
Integration of External AI Models
For the first time, Photoshop users can access external AI engines without leaving the application. In addition to Google’s Nano Banana, Adobe has added Black Forest Labs’ Flux.1 Kontext Pro to its generative fill feature. This opens the door for professionals to experiment with multiple AI models seamlessly, choosing the engine that best meets their creative needs.
“Combining choice in models with Photoshop’s professional-grade tools gives you the ability to generate content, then immediately refine it with Photoshop’s precision and control,” said Adobe VP Deepa Subramaniam on the company’s website.
How to Use Nano Banana in Photoshop
- Select the Generative Fill Tool: Open an image and choose the generative fill feature from the toolbar.
- Choose the Nano Banana Engine: In the AI model dropdown, select “Nano Banana” (Gemini 2.5 Flash).
- Define the Fill Area: Use the marquee or lasso tool to highlight the region you wish to fill or alter.
- Generate and Refine: Click “Generate” to see instant AI-driven content. Use Photoshop’s brushes, masks, and adjustments to refine the result.
This streamlined workflow ensures users can iterate quickly, blending AI-created elements with manual edits in one environment.

- Creative Cloud Standard, Photography Plan, Photoshop Single-App Plan: 100 lifetime credits per model
- Creative Cloud Pro Subscribers: 500 credits per model per day
Credits are deducted each time the generative fill feature is used, with consumption based on model complexity and image resolution. Adobe has not yet clarified the exact credit cost per operation, but users can monitor their remaining balance within the Photoshop interface.
Privacy and Commercial Use Considerations
Adobe reiterates that user content is never used to train AI models, regardless of whether it’s processed by Adobe’s own Firefly models or partner engines like Nano Banana. This policy helps address concerns about data privacy and intellectual property:
