Aftab Shivdasani on ‘Kasoor 2’: “It’s a Completely Different Film, Unrelated to the 2001 Original”

Aftab Shivdasani

Actor Aftab Shivdasani has addressed the growing confusion around his upcoming project, often being referred to in reports as ‘Kasoor 2’. In a recent interaction, Aftab clarified that the new film is not a sequel and has no narrative link to the 2001 thriller Kasoor—despite the title similarity. “It’s called Kasoor… It has nothing to do with the first Kasoor. It’s completely unrelated,” he said, adding that it is a psychological horror film and among his most challenging roles so far.

No Connection to the 2001 ‘Kasoor’

The clarification is important because the original Kasoor (2001) remains closely associated with Aftab’s early career. That film was a Hindi legal thriller starring Aftab Shivdasani and Lisa Ray, directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films, and is remembered for its courtroom drama and popular soundtrack.

Aftab’s point is straightforward: the new project does not continue the 2001 storyline, reuse its characters, or revisit its plot. The title may trigger nostalgia, but the film’s genre and narrative space are entirely different.

What the New ‘Kasoor’ Is About

While Aftab has not revealed plot specifics, he has defined the film’s tone as psychological horror, signalling a darker, more atmospheric canvas than the earlier legal-thriller template. Industry reporting has also described the project as a musical romance horror—suggesting it may blend suspense with strong musical elements rather than follow a conventional whodunit structure.

Key Project Details (As Reported)

As per earlier industry reports, the film Kasoor is directed by Glen Barretto and written by Mudassar Aziz, with producer Asif Shaikh associated with Practical Productions. The reported cast includes Urvashi Rautela and Jassie Gill alongside Aftab.

Importantly, no widely confirmed announcement has established it as an official “Part 2” of the 2001 title; the safer positioning—especially for publishing—is “Kasoor (being referred to as ‘Kasoor 2’ in some reports)” to avoid misleading audiences.

What’s Next

Now that the makers have publicly addressed the title confusion, the focus will likely shift to how they formally brand the film and market its genre. As of now, release timing has not been consistently confirmed across credible reports, so it is best kept as “release date awaited” unless an official announcement is issued.
