If Golmaal has always been about chaos, confusion, and comic madness, the fifth instalment is reportedly upping the stakes—with a major casting curveball.
As per fresh reports dated February 3, 2026, Akshay Kumar has been roped in as the chief antagonist in Golmaal 5, setting up a direct face-off with franchise anchor Ajay Devgn and the beloved ensemble that has defined the series since 2006.
A new flavour for a franchise built on mayhem
What makes this casting chatter louder than usual is the promise of a fresh tonal shift. Reports suggest the film will explore fantasy/surreal elements while retaining the franchise’s trademark slapstick energy and prank-driven chaos.
In other words: same madness, bigger playground.
Who’s returning to the gang
The core Golmaal circle is expected to be back, including:
- Arshad Warsi
- Tusshar Kapoor
- Kunal Kemmu
- Shreyas Talpade
Veteran regulars reported to be part of the film include:
- Johnny Lever
- Sanjay Mishra
- Mukesh Tiwari
- Ashwini Kalsekar
Meanwhile, Sharman Joshi is likely to return, while Kareena Kapoor Khan remains a moving piece—some reports call it a comeback, others say her involvement is not confirmed yet.
Why Akshay’s “villain” entry is being seen as a casting coup
While Akshay Kumar is synonymous with comedy franchises, an out-and-out antagonist turn in a mainstream entertainer is still relatively rare for him—making this move headline-friendly by default.
Reports also note he’s already stepping into negative space in Priyadarshan’s upcoming action-thriller Haiwaan—but the Golmaal 5 character is expected to be very different in tone and purpose.
Shoot timeline: Film City start, early 2027 target
On the production front, the current reporting points to:
- Shoot start: end of February 2026 at Goregaon Film City, Mumbai
- Release aim: early 2027
Rohit Shetty’s slate and the Ajay–Akshay collaboration angle
Reports add that Rohit Shetty is expected to move to Golmaal 5 after wrapping his Rakesh Maria biopic (headlined by John Abraham).
Ajay Devgn is also said to be busy with Drishyam 3 during the same window.
Also worth noting: this film is being framed as the sixth time Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn share screen space, with Sooryavanshi and Singham Again counted as cameo overlaps in reporting.
Security tightened after firing incident
The film’s buzz has also been shadowed by real-world concern: multiple reports say security has been strengthened around the production ecosystem following the firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s residence, with police developments continuing to be reported.
If these reports hold, Golmaal 5 is shaping up as more than “the gang returns.” It’s the franchise’s attempt to refresh its template—a fantasy-leaning comedy with a brand-new central rivalry, powered by the Ajay vs Akshay dynamic and a cast built for maximum comic collision.
