Guwahati, Mar 29 (PTI) Union Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled election rally in Assam’s Dhekiajuli assembly constituency in Sonitpur district was delayed due to heavy rain on Sunday, a BJP leader said.
Shah’s programme was scheduled to begin around 11 am, but his helicopter could not fly from here due to inclement weather conditions, he said.
The union minister later left by road for Dhekiajuli, about 133 kms from here, the BJP leader said.
“It will take at least three hours to reach the venue,” he said.
Shah was scheduled to address two poll rallies at Dhekiajuli for minister Ashok Singhal and later in Tihu for minister Chandramohan Patowary.
He had arrived here on Saturday evening and led a roadshow for BJP and alliance partner candidates for all five constituencies, including that of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Jalukbari seat, in the Gauhati Parliamentary constituency.
Apart from Sarma, party candidates Vijay Gupta (Guwahati Central), Diplu Ranjan Sarma (New Guwahati), Pradyut Bordoloi (Dispur) and AGP’s Tapan Das (Dimoria) were present in the roadshow.
Elections to the 126 assembly constituencies in Assam will be held on April 9, with counting scheduled on May 4. PTI DG BDC
