A Theatre-Centric Vision Backed by Amazon MGM

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that Nishaanchi will hit Indian theatres on September 19, 2025, marking a strong push into theatrical cinema. This announcement reflects the studio’s renewed commitment to big-screen storytelling in India.

Nikhil Madhok, Head of India Originals for Amazon MGM, noted the studio’s belief in Kashyap’s vision: “His distinctive style redefines genres” and delivers narratives that resonate deeply. Amazon MGM sees Nishaanchi as part of its initial slate of theatrical releases designed to appeal to a wide audience through layered storytelling.

The Filmmaker’s Journey: From Script to Screen

Anurag Kashyap shared that the screenplay for Nishaanchi was penned in 2016, yet required the right platform to come alive. “I have been looking for a studio who trusted me to do that, wholeheartedly,” Kashyap said. When Amazon MGM stepped in, he found in them a partner committed to his unfiltered vision.

The emotional and narrative textures of the story—betrayal, redemption, and raw human conflict—are brought to life by a core writing team including Kashyap, Prasoon Mishra, and Ranjan Chandel. The production is helmed by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures, in association with Flip Films. This alignment of creative vision and production support has allowed Kashyap to channel his early filmmaking spirit into this project.

Cast Highlights & Character Dynamics

At the heart of Nishaanchi is Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Balasaheb Thackeray, in his acting debut. He portrays twins whose fates diverge dramatically, echoes of rivalry, divergent values, and fate versus choice.

Joining the ensemble are:

  • Vedika Pinto
  • Monika Panwar
  • Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub
  • Kumud Mishra

These actors play pivotal roles that enrich the emotional and narrative arcs, contributing to what promises to be an intense, dramatic landscape full of ethical ambiguity and raw energy.

Promotion & Industry Response

Alongside the poster release, Nishaanchi has entered the spotlight at the Big Cine Expo 2025, scheduled for August 19–20 in Chennai. There, Kashyap and producer Ranjan Singh will screen exclusive footage, including promos of Nishaanchi, Kennedy, and Little Thomas, in a locked-down setting where attendees must deposit mobile phones at the door.

The choice to present footage in a controlled environment reflects the producers’ desire to build curated buzz among industry stakeholders, chief among them theatre owners and exhibition professionals.

What to Expect: Tone, Themes & Audience Appeal

From the first-look aesthetic and Kashyap’s commentary, Nishaanchi emerges as a classic masala-action crime drama, a blend of visceral realism and stylised storytelling. Visually bold and narratively layered, the film promises to explore:

  • The complexity of identity through dual roles
  • The corrosive effects of power and betrayal
  • The emotional toll of destiny unmet

With its ensemble, dual protagonists, and visually arresting tone, the film aims to appeal to both Kashyap’s loyal fans and mainstream audiences looking for grounded yet dramatic storytelling.

Final Thoughts

Nishaanchi, directed by Anurag Kashyap and backed by Amazon MGM Studios, is gearing up to be one of the most talked-about theatrical releases of 2025.
