Jaipur, Mar 12 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot participated in a foot march here on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary of the historic Dandi March led by Mahatma Gandhi during India’s freedom movement.

The march, organised by the Bharat Seva Sansthan, was held from Shaheed Smarak to Gandhi Vatika. Gehlot walked along with activists and citizens.

Many of the participants carried the tricolour. One of the participants was dressed as Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi launched the march on this day from his Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi in Gujarat to protest the British tax on salt as part of the Civil Disobedience Movement.

“The Dandi March was not just a movement against the salt law, but the world’s largest non-violent resistance against injustice and oppressive policies,” Gehlot said.

“Today I joined the Dandi March memorial foot march organised in Jaipur and paid humble tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

“At a time when new challenges are emerging before democracy, re-embracing Gandhian values of truth, non-violence and people’s power is the most effective way to strengthen democratic ideals,” the former chief minister said. PTI SDA DIV DIV
