Bezos Praises Gosling’s Project Hail Mary Performance as Film’s Buzz Skyrockets

A still from the "Project Hail Mary"

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has added serious fuel to the hype around Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming sci-fi adventure Project Hail Mary, sharing glowing praise for Ryan Gosling in a post on X on February 24, 2026. Bezos called the film “outstanding” and singled out Gosling’s ability to create real emotion opposite a wildly unconventional co-star.

“Ryan Gosling is so talented he somehow conjures emotion and chemistry with his co-star, even though that co-star is an alien rock puppet!” Bezos wrote, adding: “It’s an amazing film — huge kudos to the whole Amazon Studios team.”

A Star-Studded Sci-Fi Epic

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and written by Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary adapts Andy Weir’s bestselling novel (author of The Martian). Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there—only to realise he’s part of a desperate mission tied to a mysterious threat that could doom life on Earth.

As the story unfolds, Grace forms an unlikely partnership with an alien he nicknames Rocky—a relationship that’s already being talked about as the film’s emotional core.

Early Buzz and Praise

The early chatter is loud. Actor Josh Gad, after an early screening, went as far as calling it the “first masterpiece of 2026” and a “perfect adaptation,” a quote that’s been doing the rounds fast.

The film’s marketing has also been pulling blockbuster-level attention: Deadline reported the first trailer clocked around 400 million global views in its first week—the kind of number studios love to flaunt.

Amazon MGM Studios is now pushing the momentum with Prime Member Early Screenings on March 16—four days ahead of the wide release—scheduled in premium large formats including IMAX (plus Dolby Cinema, 4DX and 70MM in select locations).

The ensemble cast includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, rounding out what’s shaping up to be a high-concept, high-emotion space event movie.

Release Details

Project Hail Mary hits theatres on March 20, 2026, positioned as a premium big-screen release.

Why Bezos’ Shout-Out Matters

Bezos’ post isn’t just fanboy energy—it’s a loud signal of confidence around a major Amazon MGM Studios tentpole. And the fact that he zoomed in on Gosling’s “chemistry” with Rocky underlines what could be the movie’s make-or-break magic trick: turning a technically ambitious human–alien bond into something audiences actually feel.

With early reactions heating up and release day closing in, Project Hail Mary is shaping up like a full-blown spring box office player—one that wants to be both crowd-pleasing and emotionally unforgettable.
